| The Partners of Tempo Mechanical |

We were risking everything.
Our children’s futures. Our families. Our homes.
Everything that we had worked for.
In late summer 1997, TD Industries, our employer for the previous
30 years, decided to exit the residential service and installation
market. It was the right move, but it was a difficult move to make.
And it changed our lives forever.
They offered us (the Tempo Partners) the first opportunity to purchase
the company. We jumped at it. After all, nobody knew the value of
the business like those of us who worked in it.
It wasn’t easy. Tempo was a large business and had a lot
of assets and ongoing commitments. The purchase price, while fair,
was steep. Together with our TD Partners, we developed a transition
plan that would work for them, our Tempo Partners and (most importantly)
our customers.
The first year was tough. We had to find a new place and move.
We had to buy software and hardware to run the new business. We
did not have enough people, and we literally doubled the number
of Tempo Partners in the first six months. To top it off, that first
summer, the summer of ’98, is still the hottest three months
in the history of North Texas.
Together, we first survived and then began to thrive. Since 1998,
we have increased revenue by more than 40%. The Air Conditioning
NEWS (our top weekly trade publication) selected Tempo as one of
the industry’s top 6 employers. We applied for the Texas Baldridge
Award (the Texas Award for Performance Excellence) and were selected
as a finalist in the year 2000 competition. In 2001, both the Air
Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) and Excellence Alliance
(EAI) honored Tempo with their respective National Residential
Contractor of the Year Awards. Similar honors followed
in 2003, as Contracting Business Magazine issued their National
Residential Contractor of the Year award to the Partners
of Tempo.
And today, because of their effort, the more than 90 Tempo Partners
are providing the highest level of customer service and installation
excellence of their career.
It is a tribute to the Power of Employee Ownership.
Employee-Owners care more.
Your satisfaction is their highest business priority. Because,
in this world of change and turmoil, satisfied customers provide
the only path to long term security. |
